Not Gone, Just Busy

It’s 1:00 am and I’m thinking, “When was the last time I posted on my blog?!” I know its been a coon’s age, so I wanted to send out a quick “Hello. I’m still here” post. I have been really busy at work, with my family, at the studio and building my friendships these days. I have much to say, but little time to blog lately. However, the end is “neigh”. My dance performance is in 2 weeks and after that is over I will have a lot more time on my hands. I’m sure my husband will be really excited. With the summer, comes more obligations: my mother is coming into town (I haven’t seen here in 2 years), family vacations, and of course, WORK. Regardless of my lightened dance schedule, I will have plenty to fill the extra time with. I can’t say that I am looking forward to having less dance though; still so much to learn… Blech. Never good enough.

On a related note – I am totally freaking about my performance. Not the pointe and ballet 1, more so the ballet 2. Why? Because I am still falling out of my double pirouette and my outside double turn….AHHHHHHH! My whole family is going to be there! This is crazy!! I just don’t want to bust my ass on stage. Is that too much to ask for?! It probably is. I just have to smile and hope for the best. Like I always say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day and so wasn’t the Legal Ballerina.”

I will talk more soon. I have a bed calling me.

Peace and love to all.

I am reblogging this because I cannot find the direct link on Youtube and I think the General will like this.

So awesome. 🙂

A little offering from the Rock School, where Mr. and Mrs. O guest teach during their summer intensive, and where some of the company kids I take class go, along with PNB, SAB and a few other schools.

Update on the Gaynor

A little update to my Gaynors. How crazy that last night I posted about getting my shoes and then just receive them today?? Weird how the world works sometimes.

I was so stoked to get these puppies. I ripped them out of the box, unsheathed them from their azure colored bag and then there they were. I knew right then… They were going to be too (freaking) big. I put them on and they were too (freaking) big. What the snarf-blat is going on here?!?! I waited 4 weeks for these shoes to arrive and to just discover they are defective?!?!

I cross referenced the sizing with my current pair – everything was the same except for the shank stiffens. So why were the shoes too long?!?! So stupid. I called the customer service line and they said FedEx was going to pick them up and determine the problem. Discount Dance said they would send out an order to make a new pair, but in all likelihood they will not arrive on time for the show……. Waahhhhhhhhhhh! (Insert crying, blubbering baby here)

On a positive note, the shanks of the shoes felt great. I think they will fulfill the need I have, i.e. give me the flexibility I desire and will last longer than a regular pointe shoe. I just love the feeling of a really broken in shoe. These are perfect.

I will report back when I get a pair that actually doesn’t flop off my foot!

Boooooooooo hissssssssss.

Wow – Thank You

All I can say is, “Wow” and “Thank you so very, very much.”

This past week I received not one, but three Liebster Awards. The sentiment touched my little black heart! I am so honored that so many fellow bloggers wanted to provide me with such a kind gesture like bestowing a Liebster award onto little old me. All of you out there who follow me, read my (often silly) posts about my adventures in ballet/pointe and provide endless hours of entertainment to me by providing your stories as well, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

11 Random Facts About Me:
(1) I have a yorkie puppy named Sweetie Belle. I was so pumped that I got a good deal on her; who would have thought Sweetie would break her leg 1 week after I purchased her and tack on another $1,000 to her price tag! BOOOOOOOO!
(2) I am a self-proclaimed fashionista. I don’t think I would have chosen my profession if I couldn’t dress cute on a daily basis. Quite frankly, it is one of the many perks of the job.
(3) I have long black hair. It is mermaid long at this point. In the winter when I am all pasty, I resemble Elvira Mistress of the Dark. [Pleasant dreams…Muhahhahahaa]
(4) My current lunch to make is two eggs over easy, on top of a bag of microwave veggie rice, three turkey sausage links with lots and lots of hot sauce. *Drool.
(5) When I was little, I hated that my birthday was in September because my dad would get me a cake with autumn leaves on it. “I don’t like orange leaves daddy! I want purple flowers!”
(6) I have an old cat that lives in the basement; his name is “Butters”. He is really fat and full of fur. Recently, he got diarrhea and pooped all over himself and I had to bathe the old bastard in the tub. Splish Splash Butters Takin’ a (POOPY) Bath!
(7) My husband said that I can start saving up for a boob job. Not bigger, necessarily; try “perky”. Two kids and a year of breastfeeding did a hell of a job on these whoo-has!
(8) Sometimes I wish I could get a large tattoo. I am not a large tattoo person. I would look silly.
(9) People at my job expect me to wear freakishly high heals. When I don’t, people say, “Hey! Did you shrink 5 inches?!”
(10) I don’t wear earrings. They bother my sensitive little earlobe!
(11) I LOVE WEARING BRIGHT COLORED LIPSTICK! I always say, “Lipstick are the shoes of the face.” I know that may not make sense to you, but it makes perfect sense to me!

Answer Questions Given to Me:

Since there were 3 sets proposed, I had to choose. The lucky winner is The Casual Rider, so here it goes:

(1) ME?! Foreign language? I wish. If I could speak a language, it would be German.
(2) Yes, I adopted a Greyhound rescue. Sadly, he could not stop destroying my house, so after 6 months, I returned him to the rescue group. Luckily – he was placed in a new home in one week! He is a happy dog now and that makes me happy.
(3) I started crocheting last year. I crocheted a ton of stuff for Christmas the last couple of years. Ballet keeps me so busy, I don’t have time to devote to it right now!
(4) That’s tough – my favorite junk food is Buffalo Chicken Dip……….DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.
(5) I am a total EXTROVERT. I wish I was more introverted. I am pretty sure people don’t always want to hear my stories or jokes all of the time!
(6) I watch so many movies, it truly is sick. I think I watched Dune. It’s an 80’s science fiction movie. Love it!
(7) I wish I could say I am currently reading, but I am not 😦 . Basically, my job is reading. I am currently chest deep in a big lawsuit which entails a lot of legal writing and research, so yeah. No reading outside of work for me! Except of blogging, of course!
(8) I blog because I want to help others. I was terrified to start ballet; I felt so alone. I looked everywhere on the internet, but only found a couple of websites that spoke of adults starting ballet after 20. So I thought to myself, “Hell, why not start a blog myself?” I want to be that much-needed resource to any adult who is interested in taking ballet and need a little support and comradery.
(9) Just one – the good ol’ US of A!
(10) See answer to Question #7.
(11) Yes – I read blogs about fitness and self improvement. Fun and motivating.

11 Questions for the nominees are:
(1) Favorite movie
(2) Describe your most embarrassing moment
(3) What is your DREAM pet (be creative people!)
(4) If you could choose another occupation (and not worry about school or brains or yadda yadda yadda), what would you be?
(5) Name the super power you have. (Yes, you have a super power. Think….)
(6) If you could look like anyone, who would it be????
(7) Name your favorite (current or past) Boy Band. (The men I nominated has to answer this question too!)
(8) Favorite color and what does it remind you of?
(9) Would you ever shave your head for a good cause?
(10) How many jacket do you own?
(11) Clear your mind….Now tell me what is the first word that pops into your mind.

There you go!!

Sorry about the long post. Clearly, it wasn’t my fault.

Gaynors To My Arms

After 4 weeks of waiting, my Gaynor Mindens that I purchased are finally being shipped from Discount Dance Supply’s California warehouse. Why did it take so long? Well, apparently the shoes had to be specially made because I ordered the “feather” shank, which means it is very supple, like a broken in pointe shoe. This type of shank is rarely ordered. You will never find them in locally owned stores and, apparently, you not find them at a discount website. I called customer service and I was informed that they had to have the shoes specially made from Gaynor Minden itself! Fancy. I’m so fancy. I was not aware of my fanciness, until now. Ha!

Anywho, I am waiting for the arrivals of these bad boys with baited breath. I hope they are not too soft for my feet, but hell. That is why I purchased them. I want to use my arch more. I think I am strong enough to control it at this point. We will just have to wait and see.

To be continued….

Ironic Ballet Purchase

Last Thursday during ballet class the arch of my foot got strained a little. It bothered me for the rest of the class and by the end of pointe class my foot was toast. The next day Ms. Disney was all excited about these new ballet shoes she found on Discount Dance Supply. On a side note – Discount Dance is the best website to find ballet gear at great prices. Once you know your size in a shoe you like (ballet or pointe), you would be crazy not to buy them from this site. Pointe shoes are so much cheaper if you buy online. So if you are in the market – GO THERE! Anywho, Ms. Disney was all, “I found these new ballet shoes! They are canvas and have this awesome arch support inserts! I think I am going to get them.” I’m all, “AWWWW! I want new shoes too!” There was a video and everything. Fancy! Well, I was sold. I figured I needed a little support since my arches occasionally hurt during class. Maybe these shoes will help. It’s worth a shot.

Ms. Disney and I, along with a couple of the Company dancers, had an extra pointe class on Saturday. We were reviewing the choreography, because let’s face it, I do not absorb choreography quickly. Well, before we all got started Ms. Disney told the General about the shoes she found and that we both bought them. The General then looked at me and said, “I was meaning to tell you. I know you love those ballet shoes you have, but I think you should get rid of them. They are no good for your feet. They are not supportive enough and at your age you could injure yourself.” HA! Apparently, we were both thinking the same thing. I wasn’t sure if my shoes were causing my arch pain, but I suppose they were. How ironic is that I purchased a pair of ballet shoes, which I thought I didn’t need and the General wanted me to search for a new pair?! It’s like ballet serendipity, if you will.

The following are the shoes I ordered. I will let you know how they work out.

MDM Elemental ballet shoe

The “Intrinsic” is a canvas split sole ballet slipper designed to strengthen the muscles of the lower leg and provide a heightened level of support for the foot and ankle. Prior to the release of the “Intrinsic”, canvas split sole shoes have been frowned upon by dance teachers for their lack of support and remedial characteristics. This issue has been addressed by building a support and strengthening substructure into the shoe. The patent applied structure is designed to impose a level of controlled resistance to the muscles of the lower leg each time the foot points and flexes, building strength and stability over time. The structure is shaped to envelop the heel and arch which offers the dancer an unrivalled level of protection. It supports the foot and arch and allows the intrinsic muscles to recover when at rest. All this is achieved while maintaining the optimum aesthetics for a longer leg and a clean line. [Information taken from Discount Dance website.]
